You can find small pets like gerbils, guinea pigs, and hamsters easily. They are so cute, so you might be tempted to make an impulse purchase. But before you go to a pet store, there are some advice that you should think :

1. What the pet store wants to sell you is what it keeps in stock. For example, experts say that guinea pigs require larger cages than most pet stores sell.

2. Where do you want to keep your pet? If you want to keep it in a child’s room, make sure you buy a small pet that is active during a day, like a guinea pig, rather than the nocturnal one, like a gerbil, which can make noise at night.

3. Consider lifespan. Your child may be excited with the animal now, but what happens if he loses interest? A rat or gerbil only lives about four years, but a guinea pig is able to live more than ten. After your child leaves for college, do you still want to caring for the small pet?

4. Consider how much the pet’s odor will bother you. As a example, guinea pigs urinate more than gerbils, so the cage can be smellier between cleanings.

5. Note that every small pet have a different behavior and personalities. Hamsters that nippier gerbils. Rats are considered the most intelligent rodents. Smaller animals must be handled more carefully by your child.

How To Catch A Loose Small Pet

Is your hamster or other small pet acting the part of an escape artist? If so, you can do these steps to find your small pet.

1. First of all, take an empty can.
2. Put a small dish rag into the empty can.
3. Get your pet’s favourite food.
4. Get a small piece of wood and use it as a ramp up to your pet’s cage.
5. Put the food into the can and on the ramp.

I think this is a fool-proof way to get your small pet back in his cage safe and sound!
